What should I desire, O heavens what
for implore,
What should I desire, O heavens what for implore,
The desire-nuturing heart is now with me no
more.
The forms manifold will instantly dissolve,
If before the glass I breath: ''O God''
Judge me not O sheikh by my drenched hem,
Angels will ablution seek if wring my cloak.
Taper-like though I am a tongue from head to
heel.
Yet I cannot dare to ope my lips for speech.
A mirror I am no doubt but so much out of
grace,
That whoso I confront withdraws his face.
Short our span of life transient too the rose.
Wherefore should we harbor a love of hue and
scent?
This is my counsel Dard to the pious of the
town,
They should come and kneel to the wine-flask. |
